2025 April – Chiang Mai, Thailand – Raya Heritage - “Tung Tua Peng” or “Tung Sib Song Rasri” is a type of Lanna flag that is popularly made during the Songkran Festival or Thai New Year. The Lanna people believe that the mother zodiac Year with twelve zodiac signs flag making and offering will create good luck and good health in that year.

“Tung Tua Peng” looks like other flags but having the appearance image of animals that represent the twelve zodiac signs on the white color flag. They are made in order from the first year, the Year of the Rat, the Ox, the Tiger, the Rabbit, the Dragon or big Snake (In Lanna culture refers to the Naga, an animal in the novel), the small Snake, the Horse, the Goat, the Monkey, the Rooster, the Dog, and the Year of the Pig (In Lanna culture is the elephant). There will be a “Tung” offering to the temple on the first day of new year called “Payawan” Day and as a gimmick this activity strengthens family relationships since in the past.

“ตุงตั๋วเปิ้ง” หรือ “ตุงสิบสองราศี” เป็นตุงล้านนาประเภทหนึ่งที่นิยมทำกันในช่วงเทศกาลสงกรานต์ หรือ ปีใหม่เมือง ตามความเชื่อของชาวล้านนาเรื่องจักรราศี ซึ่งมีนักษัตรสิบสองราศี คือ ปีชวด ปีฉลู ปีขาล ปีเถาะ ปีมะโรง ปีมะเส็ง ปีมะเมีย ปีมะแม ปีวอก ปีระกา ปีจอ และปีกุน (ตามคติของชาวล้านนา ปีกุน คือกุญชร) เชื่อว่า การทำตุงจักรราศีแม่ปีอันมีสิบสองราศีนั้น จะทำให้ผู้ที่ถวายตุงพ้นเคราะห์พ้นโศกโรคภัย และ เสริมสร้างศิริมงคลให้กับผู้จัดทำตุงในปีนั้นๆอีกด้วย

“ตุงตั๋วเปิ้ง” จะมีรูปนักษัตรหรือรูปสัตว์ประจำสิบสองราศีตกแต่งบนตัวธงสีขาว โดยเรียงจากตัวแรก คือ หนู วัว เสือ กระต่าย งูใหญ่ (คติของชาวล้านนา หมายถึง พญานาค สัตว์ในนิยาย) งูเล็ก ม้า แพะ ลิง หมา ไก่ และหมู (คติของชาวล้านนาจะใช้ช้าง เป็นสัญลักษณ์ประจำปีกุญชร) โดยตุงที่เสร็จสมบูรณ์จะถูกนำไปถวายที่วัด ปักบนกองทราย ร่วมกับตุงไส้หมูที่มีสีสัน ในวันพญาวัน หรือ วันที่ 15 เมษายน ซึ่งถือเป็นวันขึ้นปีใหม่ของชาวล้านนา ถือเป็นกิจกรรมที่เสริมสร้างความสัมพันธ์กันในครอบครัวมาแต่โบราณ
